| Harvest has begun for both corn and soybeans. This is one of the few years I can remember a significant amount of corn being harvested before soybeans. Most corn is coming out a little wet from 20 to 25% unless it was under severe stress from drought or disease. The early yield reports are variable, but generally higher than expected on good ground. There are many corn fields susceptible to wind damage due to weak stalks and roots. This could become a big issue if the weather does not cooperate. Growers need a timely soybean harvest so they don’t have to leave the corn in the field too long.
Soybean harvest is slowly getting started this week. Most still need some drying time. Early yield reports are few, but indicate good yields. The weather outlook looks good, so we expect soybean harvest to be in full swing by the end of the week.
