The past week brought very welcome warm and dry conditions before rain moved in again Sunday night and Monday morning. Field work was able to resume by Thursday, and quite a few farmers were able to get closer to the finish line on corn planting by the end of the weekend. Statewide, 80% of the corn is planted, but we are likely lagging that pace slightly. Areas further to the east where rains have not been as heavy are completely done with corn planting and have a good start on getting soybeans in the ground. While to the west it will take another week
to finish corn after the wet weather early this week.
The corn market moved lower last week, as nationwide corn planting progress remains ahead of normal. The soybean market continues to remain strong relative to corn.
