Crop development was pushed along last week by warm weather. Most of our Northwest territory also received a
nice rain. Lyon and Sioux counties in extreme Northwest Iowa have consistently missed most of the rains. That
area is beginning to show some minor crop stress. There are also some areas with wind damage from a storm
over the weekend. Overall crops are still in very good shape.

Most corn is in the middle of the pollination process which started last week and takes about 2 weeks. Pollination is critical to final yield. The maximum number of kernels set is determined at this time. Good weather during pollination is important, and the extended weather forecast looks good. We are finding some corn leaf diseases. Many corn fields will be sprayed with a fungicide in the next two weeks. We expect above average corn yield at this time.

Soybeans are at the full bloom stage. In this stage they will grow rapidly adding new branches and blooming at the same time. In another week or two soybeans will shift their energy to making pods. We are finding low numbers of soybean aphids and some leaf diseases.

The grain markets started moving lower from technical selling and lack of new weather concerns. The wet
weather rally may have run its course for now until we get an idea of the size of crop we’ll have this fall.
