Harvest is complete for the season, and most of the fall field work and fertilizer is also done. We’ve had some
rain over the past month to keep field conditions on verge of being too wet, but just enough dry weather allowed
for work to get done. The soil is somewhat compacted from the wet season and heavy equipment. Hopefully the
soil will loosen up from freeze / thaw over the winter. Our subsoil water levels are currently full or near full. This puts us in good position for next season.
Corn and soybean yields were very good to record high across our region on average, but we did see a lot of
variability. I think the top yields this year were better than last year, and the bottom yields were worse. The
season started with inconsistent stands due to cool wet soil and pounding rains, followed by hot and dry periods,
and ended with near perfect conditions.
