Favorable weather conditions since the second week of April has been advantageous to planting both corn and soybeans. Over the past few growing seasons we have seen more and more farmers planting soybeans early with that pattern continuing into this year. It is not uncommon for farmers to have all of their corn planted and have a good start on their soybean planting.
Widespread rain was received over the weekend of April 19th. Rain totals vary but generally everyone received a measurable amount. Despite this, there are pockets SE of Storm Lake that are dry, but everyone should have adequate subsoil moisture to get this year’s crop off to a good start.
Looking ahead at the seven-day forecast, there is a strong chance of precipitation on Thursday April 24th. After that there are small chances of rain early next week. During this same period, temperatures are forecasted to have daytime highs ranging from the mid-60s to the low 80s with nighttime lows ranging in the mid to low 40s.
