Bean harvest is well underway but varies for each neighborhood. Some areas appear to be nearing the finish line while others have most yet to harvest. Yields are mostly good to great. Some fields are setting records but many are coming in near last year’s yield. Those fields that were high hard with Sudden Death Syndrome have yield reduction.
Only a little corn has been harvested. Yield reports so far are similar to beans, good to great while those that were hit hard with Southern Rust took a major yield reduction.
Both crops are dry due to another fall with very fast drying weather conditions. Many beans are below 10% moisture. Corn is also drying fast. This is both a blessing and a curse, as we avoid drying expense, but lose yield due to moisture and shatter losses.
The land market continues to show strong sales for good land while the lower quality cropland is showing some softness.
