Corn fields look good to very good. A few but not many would rate “excellent” in our opinion.Nearly all have a dark green color and are not under stress, since most of this area is naturally well-drained soil. Missouri River bottom soils can be the most problematic. Crops there range from excellent to poor, but mostly good on corn and average to good on beans in Wood bury and Monona Counties.

Prices settled back after topping the 3 week of June, which is right on time. When we look back on prices, it is amazing how many times they reach a top between June 10 and 20. We do believe this year is set up well for a second weather market rally in July or August. Since bull markets need to be continually fed with news, it is not surprising that we’d see a lull in the market at this point. Weather has turned more favorable, and USDA’s Planting Report of June28 came in way outside the analyst’s range of estimates. This report confuses “intended” acres to be planted during the survey time of early June, with “actual” planted acres. They will resurvey 14 states in August. It will be a shocker if they don’t come in with a considerable revision, and that may begin with the July 11 report. It’s like the ref who blew a call, he’ll give it
back a little at a time.
