Bean harvest is pretty well wrapped up – done in most areas but a day or two left in others. Yields have been pretty consistently good, and certain areas are great. Overall, it’s a B+ to A- year for most bean yields. Hot, dry, windy conditions have become common in late September and early October. We’ve dealt with super-fast grain drying quite a few years recently and 2025 is no exception. Few beans were harvested in the 12-13% range. Most dropped to 10% or less before much progress was made. Corn dropped 8-10% moisture points quickly as well. 13% is becoming a common report on corn moisture, some even as low as 10-11%. Southern Rust took a heavy toll, even on fields that were sprayed timely with fungicides. Some fields were sprayed a second time and we are hearing positive reports on that so far. Fungicide responses will be the top discussion item as corn harvest concludes. So far, most corn yields are in the lower 200’s with some fields reaching into the mid 200’s. However, it is not unusual to hear of yields well below 200, which has been due to drainage issues or lack of fungicide.
